Following these steps while transplanting a tree:
- Late winter and early spring are the best times for transplanting. The second best time is fall season. While roots take up most of plant wetness, leaves will give wetness up through evaporation when under tension. Summer is not the best season for transplanting. Also in the dead of winter it's almost impossible.
- The time required for the tree moving project is 2 hours. Nevertheless, it's all depends on the circumstances. To dig an older shrub or plant out of bumpy ground is backbreaking work. How lengthy it requires you will mostly depend on your wellness and on how much you're willing to force yourself.
- Before moving the plant in the hole, check out that the hole has been dug to the appropriate level and no more. New roots will have difficulty to developing because of a lack of oxygen, if the tree is planted too deeply. It is good to plant trees little high, 2 to 3 inches above the base of the tree trunk flare.
- After moving on the tree and before you start backfilling, check the view from various directions to confirm that the plant is straight. Because if you begin backfilling, it is hard to reposition the tree.
- Complete the hole about one-third full and carefully but securely pack the soil around the base of the root ball. After that if the root ball is wrapped, cut it and take out any plastic, wire, fabric and string from around the trunk and root ball. You have to be careful that the trunk or root ball can’t be damaged.
- After completing the process, water that plant or tree at least once a week and more often during hot weather. When the soil is dry under the surface of the mulch, it is time to water.
